Bike Recycle Vermont

Rebuilding bikes, Rebuilding lives

Bike Recycle Vermont enhances the mobility and expands opportunities for low-income Vermonters by providing participants refurbished bicycles and job training skills.

Objectives

Bicycle Recycle Vermont has three main objectives

  1. To provide mobility to resettled refugees and other low-income Vermonters by providing quality refurbished bicycles
  2. To deliver job skills and bike repair training to adults and children with limited means or physical challenges
  3. To reduce the waste stream by diverting and rehabilitating bicycles destined for the landfill and recycling all metal and rubber components that are no longer usable

How Can I Help?

  1. Contribute! To help us reach our “Keep It Rolling” Campaign goal, consider making a tax-deductible contribution today.
  2. Volunteer! There are many ways to help. We need bicycle mechanics work, office help, donation pick-ups, and other skills.
  3. Donate A Bike! We get our bicycles from police departments, civic groups and individuals like you! Do you have a bicycle seeking a new life

BRV accepts all bicycles – the good, the bad, and the ugly – from tricycles to bikes that fit 6’8” adults. Bikes that are beyond repair are relieved of any unusable parts and the remaining metal and rubber is recycled to the fullest possible extent. BRV’s recipients also receive free helmets, locks and safety information.

Sadir, a Somali refugee, receives a bicycle from Bicycle Recycle Vermont so he can commute to work. Local bus service does not run after his evening shift.

“With limited public transportation in Vermont, these bikes enable individuals to travel to and from work, visit friends and generally become acquainted with their new surroundings. Personally, I have seen our clients riding all around town on their new bikes, with great big smiles on their faces and waving happily with their newfound freedom!”

- Stacie Blake, Director

VT Refugee Resettlement Program
